Patient’s Duration of Stay in the Hospital: A Retrospective Study

Abstract

Objective: The objective(s) of the study was to determine whether any difference among male and female patients in the duration of stay at Hospital in all age group and different Diseases.

Methods and Materials: The survey design was used to the study of the patients admitted at Aarogya Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital, Jaipur (Raj.). The data were collected from the month of January 03, 2020 to month of March 14, 2020 at Aarogya Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital, Naila, Jaipur, in which patients were admitted in the hospital and Retrospective study was done on 40 patients of in-patient department (Males 25 & Females 15) aged about 14 years to 82 years. Information collected in the course of case taking and it was tabulated, analyzed and presented mathematically.

Results: The Mean of the duration of stay in the Hospital was 16.32 in Male and 18 in Female. The longest duration of stay 54 days in Male & 55 days in Female and the shortest was 03 days in Male & 02 days in Female.  Retrospective Study was done on 25 male patients (62.5%) and 15 female patients (37.5%) and found that the table value for “t” degrees of freedom is higher than 1.09 which is the value calculated at 5% (p<0.05) level of significance. Therefore, the Duration of Stay in hospital of male and female patients is same in all the diseases and all age group.

Conclusion: The study provides insight into the average number of days a patient admitted in Aarogya Homeopathic Hospital, Jaipur is likely to  spend as well  as the major  factors  that  contribute  to  long  or  short  period of Hospitalization  i.e. including the patients’ socio-economic status, medical condition, social characteristics, & etc. The Duration of Stay in Hospital of Male and Female patients is same in different kind of diseases and all age groups.
