Introduction

Uterine fibroid or uterine leiomyoma is the most common benign tumours in females and typically found during the middle and later reproductive years. While most fibroids are symptomatic, they can grow and cause heavy and painful menstruation, painful sexual intercourse and urinary frequency and urgency. The size of the tumour may vary from microscopic to mammoth tumours weighing over 100lb. Reproductive disorders including infertility, recurrent spontaneous abortion and preterm labour have been attributed to uterine fibroid. Till today there are no controlled studies that support a casual association.

The treatment usually includes hormonal therapy and surgical resection by the modern science, and this shows rather a palliative mode of treatment, where cure is never expected. The hormonal treatment causes disharmony in other systems of the body and surgery, though it removes the end result of the disease, but the cause that led to it still remains.
